Booths has appointed a manager with more than 25 years of retail experience to head their new store in Penrith.
Richard Sykes, who currently manages the family-run retailer’s Windermere store, will take charge of the Penrith store when it opens in November. In the meantime he will balance running Windermere with preparations for Penrith – such as recruiting staff.
Richard, who has been married to his wife Pat for 19 years and has two sons Joe 16 and Ben 12, was born in Ulverston and attended Cartmel Priory School and then Kendal College. He has been a Booths store manager for 19 years and said he is looking forward to the challenge of running a new store in Penrith.
"It is a great challenge for me to open a new store and to show the people of Penrith what is so special about Booths,” he said. "I have worked for Booths for more than 25 years, and have been a store manager for 19 of those years but this will be the first time I have opened a new store. It will be a fantastic opportunity for me and one which I am thoroughly looking forward to.
"Booths has wanted to come to Penrith for many years and we are putting in a lot of work to ensure we have a fabulous store for the people of Penrith and Eden.
"There are many people in and around the town who have long awaited our arrival and they will soon see why we are the best at what we do – providing top quality local produce at fair prices and supporting local producers as best we can.”
As well as stocking high quality regional produce, the Booths Penrith store will also showcase an exciting new format of café for the company – ensuring that customers can relax with their choice of a great selection of hot meals, snacks as well as freshly prepared on site sandwiches and salads, which would use local ingredients where possible.
Booths are currently seeking new recruits to work at the Penrith store. Supervisor vacancies are currently being advertised online and in the local press and General Assistant vacancies will be advertised from 8th August.
